🐈 Can My Cat Eat Ham?

Ham is a processed meat that poses several risks to cats. The sodium content is the primary concern — cats are much smaller than humans and far more sensitive to salt. Excess sodium can cause increased thirst, dehydration, elevated blood pressure, and in severe cases, sodium ion poisoning (tremors, seizures, coma). The high fat content in ham can trigger pancreatitis, a painful and potentially life-threatening condition. Processed ham also contains sodium nitrite, preservatives, and often sugar glaze — all unnecessary and potentially harmful to cats. Some hams contain garlic or onion powder in the seasoning, which are toxic to cats. Even 'natural' or 'uncured' ham still has extremely high sodium from the curing process.

If your cat ate a small piece, provide plenty of fresh water and monitor. For larger amounts, watch for signs of sodium poisoning and contact your vet if symptoms appear.
